Art time!

This piece completes a set of 3 that I've been working on. Needless to say, this was quite a fun one to work on, too. It changed significantly since the initial sketch. I'm rather pleased with how it turned out, in the end, but I did have to work through a few roadblocks along the process.

At one time, I drew a face on the person there, but I ended up removing it. The dark cowl gives off more of a sense of mystery, I think.

Enjoy. :D

Speedpaint 4-18
Time: 5 Hours.

I think a few speedpaints might help me loosen up a little, and help refine my technique.

I normally spend weeks on the large pictures I do, but I think it is easy to over-work things, and waste time re-doing things. So, I took a different approach with this piece, and finished it within the day!
Whoo! :D

I'm finished with the speedpaint I've been working on recently.
I guess it's a bit less speedy than my last one, but not by too much, and I think I've been able to increase the level of detail and scope of the piece. :)

This one took about 6.5 hours, not including the time to make a basic sketch. That's a LOT faster than my longer pieces.
The process was recorded at [link]

These speedpaints are going to be great practice and a lot of fun. :)

Speedpaint for 4-30.
Time spent: ~3.5 hours
The process for this piece was recorded on Livestream, too.

I thought I'd mix it up a bit on this one.
It's been a while since I've drawn a gryphon, so it was rather fun. I feel rusty, but that's what practice is for! :)

I'm still rather pleased with the finished result of this piece, though. The canvas was a nice change of pace, after so many landscape sized pieces.
I think I'm improving with this speedpaint technique, as well. :D

Speedpaint 5/7/13
Time: 4:16

For this speedpaint, I decided to revisit an older piece of mine. I really like the idea, but I thought I could do much better with it now, compared to a few years ago.
I think it turned out much better. The process behind this piece has been saved, on Livestream. [link]

The awesomely punny title was suggested in the livestream by Tempo. [link]
I'm rather pleased with the result. It hardly seems like a speedpaint, in a way. :)

When playing Monster Hunter 3U, I was a bit disappointed at first that some of the epic monsters that I'm familiar with aren't in the game...
Then I fought the Dire Miralis. ;)
It was so striking that I had to make some fanart.

This started as a speedpaint, but it had potential to be rather epic, so I decided to keep working on it longer.
Getting the sense of scale right was the biggest challenge with this piece, since the Dire Miralis is very large.
In the end, this one probably took around 15 hours, so it was still much faster than my longer pieces, but I'm quite pleased with the result. The lighting and coloring were a lot of fun to work with, too.

Sadly, because of some network issues, the whole process for this piece wasn't recorded on Livestream, but I'll definitely be streaming some more speedpaints on there, in the future. :)

Time for a sky race!

This is another that started as a speedpaint, but I spent a bit more time on it, since I liked the idea. It probably took around 8 hours, so still much faster than my longer pieces.

It was a bit frustrating to get the contrast right on this piece, but I'm pleased with it in the end. Maybe I'll re-visit the idea someday, too.
