Complete Scene: [link]

After the response on my War March picture, I decided to add on to it, to make a larger scene. Placing the two sides right next to each other seemed awkward, so I made a landscape to go in the middle and serve as a transition.

I am attempting to design these three pieces in a way that allows them to work together, or stand on their own. The composition involved there is much more challenging than anything I've done before, but I think this one turned out well.

Each one of the three pieces is 16x9 ratio, so as a whole, so the complete scene will be 48x9. :D

And the third segment!
Now, I just have to upload the complete panorama. ;)

I considered using undead, but I wanted something that would fit the dark scene, without coming across as inherently evil like undead tend to do. So, I went with constructs! :D
And a moving fortress.

I stylized and modified a few famous statues to use as golems in this piece. That was also something that I don't do very often, so it was rather fun to try.

Now, that is a ridiculous resolution.
All in all, this probably took me a good two months to complete. It is by far the most work I've put into a piece of art like this, and it was an interesting challenge. It was much larger than my monitor, so I just hope the perspective and composition looks good.

The composition on this piece was extremely challenging for me. I wanted to make all three segments work well as standalone images, but also fit together as a whole. I think it worked out well in the end here.

It was a difficult piece, but it was very satisfying.
I hope you all enjoy it.

After seeing a few references to "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", I decided to check it out.
That was a GOOD decision.

So, now it's time for some Rainbow Dash fanart. I tried a few things in this piece that are different from my normal style. This was a quicker piece, but I had a lot of fun playing around with the colors in this one.

Confound those ponies! They drive me to attempt new things artistically. :la:
Enjoy. :)

Art time!

For this piece, I tried to make the background and setting a bit more complex. It's another one of those overlooking scenery type pieces that I tend to enjoy making, but I think I tried plenty of new things and small improvements in this piece.

The pillars and foliage provided a bit of a challenge, too. I combined effects from several different brushes and layers to try and avoid the boring template look that those brushes sometimes leave behind. Also, I tried to use a bit more shading on the dragon and add a bit more perspective on the scale pattern to give it a bit more shape and definition.

Enjoy. :)

Art complete!
This piece was quite a bit simpler than my last one, but I think the perspective and composition are a bit more elegant. That sky sure was fun to draw. :D

I'm trying to work on my painting technique, so this one is much less reliant on lines than my last piece. Also, I got tired of using a pre-made tree brush, so I made a new brush of my own again.

I hope you all enjoy it. Comments and criticism are always welcome, and I'll do my best to reply to every one. :)

Woo! Art time! :)

I've been working on a few different pieces lately. I've run into a bit of frustration on some of them, so I decided to draw something nice and relaxing.
The color scheme and portrait style canvas were a good change of pace, as well.

I could go on about all the different areas in this piece, but that would get a bit repetitive. It was quite enjoyable to make, as a whole.

Comments and criticism are always welcome. :D

A while back, I got a fun idea for a bit of Magic: the Gathering fanart. ;)

This piece was quite difficult for me, though. I don't draw many people, so I had to take my time with Jace and Chandra, here. MtG has some of my favorite concept art and illustrations, so I wanted to do it justice with my piece here.
When this piece got frustrating, I made some other sketches, or worked on other art, until I felt like returning to it. I changed the perspective and background completely a few times, but in the end, I'm glad I was patient with it.

I hope you all enjoy it, as well. :D

Magic : the Gathering, as well as Jace and Chandra are owned by Wizards of the Coast. www.wizards.com/magic/

The design on the table is from [link] as well. Those circles are just awesome.

Finished!
I think most of you will see which one is the king. ;-)

I posted a WIP for this a while back, and I've been making changes to it since then. I decided to use the dragon, but add some more symmetric foreground elements, so the piece as a whole doesn't look off balance. I think the final composition turned out well. The converging lines in the background were especially fun to work with. Warm color schemes are addictive, too. ;)

This piece was quite a lot of work.
I always want to make each piece of art I make better than my last ones, and one way I go about that is by putting some more time into the details.
This one went through several different revisions, but after spending so long on this picture, I think I'm in the mood for some quicker pieces next. This one had over 100 layers. :P

That may not be the pinnacle of efficiency, but at I am proud of the final result, so the time spent was worthwhile, in my opinion.

Enjoy the art!
Comments and criticism are always welcome, too. :D

Project Update!

Three Nargacuga Moon

Well, the Nordgard card game is currently printing, so my role in the art and design stage of things is basically done. Now, it's time to watch things come together. Here's the site for that project, if you haven't heard about it: [link] ;)

Anyway, I was at ACEN and realized that there weren't any good Monster Hunter shirts around. I was joking around with a friend, and the topic of the Three Wolf Moon shirt came up, so I decided to make a Monster Hunter related picture. I'll probably try to print it on a few shirts to wear around at cons.

This was a quick bit of fanart, but fun to draw. Nargas are probably some of my favorite monsters. I think of fun fanart things all the time, even little story arcs sometimes but almost never get around to drawing them...
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this piece, as well. :)

There's one more quick piece of fanart I'm working on, then I'll return to the epic scenes.

My Little Gurren Lagann

Now, it's time for the other piece of fan art I've been working on. :D

This idea was the result of a conversation about Gurren Lagann and Friendship is Magic. I enjoy both shows, and so I thought this idea was rather entertaining, so I had to whip something up.
The expressions were a lot of fun to draw, and it's not a style I normally use, so I enjoyed working on this one.

I had fun picking character types from FiM for the Gurren Lagann characters. Nia would definitely be a changeling, too, with that Anti-spiral form and all. ;)
It was really tempting to draw that, but I decided to stick with designs from the first part of the series.

Next, to work on some more fantasy scenes and dragons. Huzzah! :D

3D Dragon Sculpt

Now here's something different. :)

I took a break from my current work in progress to play around with Sculptris a bit. It's like a limited version of zbrush, and it's free to download. [link]

I haven't really done anything 3D before, and it was fun to play around with, so I made a dragon. :D
Now, perhaps I'll see if I can get this printed up some time. That would be neat.

Sculptris slowed down drastically on me when I tried to texture the model, and I didn't want to spend too long on it, so I simply drew the eyes in using Photoshop. Also, it would be fun to turn this into one of those rotatable flash things.

If any of you have done that before, what software do you use to build those?

Edit: Eyes updated! Huzzah!

Time for some art!
This one was a difficult piece for me, but I'm quite satisfied with the end result. I really wanted to do the idea justice in this case. How difficult was it?

Well, I got frustrated and re-started this piece 4 times... The effort was worth it in the end, because this version is something that I can definitely be proud of. :D

I tried to use some of the texture and detail techniques that I picked up while watching some of the :iconscrewbald: livestreams when working on the Nordgard project. :)

I hope all of you enjoy it, as well.

This is a landscape I made for the Nordgard card game project. [link]
It isn't used in the main set, but may be used as a promo at some point. It's a little different in style and technique than some of my other pieces. It was quite a fun landscape to make, though.

Keep in mind, this is sort of a nod toward my other art, and doesn't confirm the existence of dragons in the Nordgard world. This is just an interesting rock formation. ;-)

Enjoy the sample. :-)

Veto Corp. Tribute

This is a commemorative piece for a friend on FA, darkdragon452, [link]

He's had a great time playing EVE Online, and Veto, a group he was part of is closing down, so he was looking for some special art for them all, so I thought I'd help them out.
This version is slightly cropped, and doesn't have the commemorative text, so check out the full version on his page here: [link]

Also, SPACE! :D
It's been quite a while since I've drawn a space scene, so the background and setting were a lot of fun to work with, and a good change of pace.
